On Wednesday night we had the pleasure of seeing bands Holy Child, Max Frost & Fitz and the Tantrums sold-out show at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. While I really enjoyed Holy Child and Fitz and the Tantrums’ performances, I am writing this post solely on Max Frost. When I hear an artist with as much talent as he has, I feel it is my legit duty to help spread the word. I can’t help but tell everyone about these melodic gems of songs that should be gracing their ears! 😉 Honestly though.. his music is amazing and more people should be listening to his tunes.
I’ve been a big fan of his music for awhile now and actually wrote a post about his hit song ‘White Lies’ a year ago, (which you can read here).
Opening and getting a crowd pumped up and ready for such a high-energy band such as Fitz and the Tantrums (who are known for their incredible live performances) is no easy task. However, 21-year-old Max Frost did just that and made it look effortless. He has that rare blend of natural charisma, confidence and showmanship that can’t be taught and oozes soul within every song.
His songs sound like an eclectic mix of a wide range of different genres combined. Hip hop, funk, pop, rock, alt, & r&b – all wrapped up in one. To me, the main sound and underlying genre in his music is good ole’ soul. Frost’s music will simply make you feel. (his music may also give you an uncontrollable urge to sway and dance. don’t say I didn’t warn you.)
Max’s set list included a number of catchy songs off his 2013 EP release ‘Low High Low’ and also included some new unreleased songs that will be on his upcoming debut album. Highlights of the show include Max’s groovy cover of Rick James’ classic 1981 hit ‘Give It To Me Baby‘ which got the whole crowd moving, and Frost’s incomparable guitar skills. Multiple times throughout the show Frost would have two guitars slung around his neck, playing the top guitar without missing a note. A super impressive performance from a young singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist.
Max Frost is currently on tour in the US until July 30th with Fitz and the Tantrums. If you get the chance to see him live, do it! He’s an insanely talented artist that’s bound to become a worldwide star very soon.
