MAKE UP FOR EVER Spring 2015

IMG_1333g5Working in the Cosmetic & Skincare business as a Makeup Artist for the past 15 years, I have seen many trends. The biggest beauty trend in the last few years has definitely been facial contouring. Makeup Artists have been contouring forever but it has now become more popular for women consumers. This has occurred due to many reasons, partly due to social media influences such as the Kardashians. Mainly Kim K. Everyone has seen photos of her (or 1 of the sisters) getting their makeup done and all of the contouring that is involved. I am happy to say that we definitely do not need to be applying contouring quite as dramatically as they do on a daily basis. It’s great fun to go through those contouring extremes for photos and special outings, but for everyday wear, the quicker and easier the better!

IMG_1271hWe were thrilled when MAKE UP FOR EVER recently launched their amazing Pro Sculpting Duo pressed powder (in 2 shades). They have taken the guess work out of contouring for everyone and made it simple and easy for us to achieve professional looks. No more searching for the perfect shades of different concoctions, mixing and matching and trying to get that glamorous Professional Make Up Artist look. Thanks to the perfect contouring combinations in a handy, travel friendly compact.

IMG_1266g2#1 Pink Beige: Light with cool tones. This is the one I (Laura) use since I am fair and blonde.

#2 Golden: Tan with warm undertones. Natasha is brunette and uses this one.

Tip: You can use either colour combo that appeals to you. These were our personal preferences but we have each used both Duos and have created numerous contouring looks with each.

IMG_1407gThe Pro Sculpting Duo compact is a gel powder formula, talc-free and literally feels like smooth silk. The advanced formula contains skin enhancing ingredients to smooth and perfect the skin, light-reflecting mica to add radiance and pigments of pure colour to create a naturally defined appearance.

I absolutely am in love with this duo compact! The very first time I wore it to work the first person who I talked to immediately complimented me on my cheeks! The funny thing was I had been feeling a little under the weather and ironically she commented how healthy I looked. If that isn’t an awesome testament about the product! The pink shade has a beautiful iridescence and is the perfect highlighter.

Tip 1: I used the Beige to contour under my cheek bones, around hair line and jaw then I used the Pink to highlight my cheekbones, temples and cupids bow. To finish I combined the 2 Duo colours by swirling my brush in both then applying the mixed combo to the apples of my cheeks and blending very well. The colour was gorgeous.

Tip 2: Use the Beige to contour and the Pink to highlight then use one of your favourite coloured Pink blushes on your cheeks to create a whole different ‘rosy’ look. Blend well.

Tip 3: Blend. Blend. Blend! I cannot express this enough. I have seen way too many women using the contouring method without blending the colours together. You shouldn’t be able to visually see where you applied each individual colour. You can never blend too much.

This duo has the most beautiful gold highlighter we have ever used. The tan portion is a little on the darker side so we recommend using a light touch when applying.

Tip 1: We loved trying this Duo in various ways. Try combining both colours by swirling your brush in both and applying it all over the cheeks then adding a little of the Gold on just the cheek bones. This was one of favourite looks with this compact. We call it our ‘J-Lo Glow’ look… and who doesn’t want to have her always fabulous glow?

Tip 2: Use the Tan portion lightly all over as a bronzer applying the Gold as an eye shadow, on cheek bones and above the cupids bow. Apply one of your favourite blushes on the apples of your cheeks and blend well.

This #156 Blush Brush is light-weight and has super soft synthetic bristles. This brush was adapted for applying compact powders easily. Many Film Makeup Artists use this brush on actors as its flexibility makes it quick and easy to create a healthy looking glow.

Primer is a very critical step in your make-up application. If you’ve NEVER used a primer under your foundation before, well, you haven’t been living! That may be slightly exaggerated, obviously, but seriously… you definitely HAVE to get some and give it a try. ASAP.

Using a Primer is like a painter using a base coat before painting on his canvas (or wall). It just makes more sense to prime first.

Primers makes a huge difference:

#1. Makeup goes on seamlessly.
#2. Optimizes the colour and finish.
#3. Your foundation will last a lot longer.

There are 10 Step 1 Skin Equalizers to choose from. Five are for texture related issues such as oil/shine, large pores, fine lines, dryness and redness. Five are to boost radiance in specific skin tones. You can use a combination of a couple different primers or choose just one to aid your main concern.

One single primer does not always work for all skin types. We love that MAKE UP FOR EVER introduced a wide variety of primers to choose from. A primer available for every different skin tone and many different skin concerns!

Mattifying Primer reduces shine.
Smoothing Primer evens the skin’s texture.
Hydrating Primer restores skin’s balance.
Nourishing Primer moisturizes and comforts.
Redness Correcting Primer neutralizes.

Radiant Primer Blue adds radiance to light skin.
Radiant Primer Pink adds radiance to light to medium skin.
Radiant Primer Yellow adds radiance to light to medium skin.
Radiant Primer Peach adds radiance to medium to tan skin.
Radiant Primer Caramel adds radiance to dark skin.

IMG_1422g2Along with the Pro Sculpting Duos & Step 1 Skin Equalizers, MUFE also launched 2 new shades of their Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick ($23) as well as a brand new mascara, Smoky Stretch ($28).
