ArtBeat Vancouver 2015

When Natasha heard that ArtBeat Vancouver was looking for submissions from local Artists to contribute their art for charity, she knew it was something I’d be interested in.

Founded by Scarlett Smith, Artbeat Vancouver is a non-profit fundraising society. This special event is a celebration of local music and art which raises money for a worthy cause. The evening features a silent auction of art in benefit of Esther’s Place Shelter in Vancouver as well as a portion of the funds (10%) aids Little Footprints, Big Steps.

Esther’s Place is a safe-haven 4 apartment home in Vancouver where abused women and their children can go to rebuild their life safely and securely. This safe house provides support, job training and assistance in essentially starting their life all over again.
Here in British Columbia it is estimated that last year alone, approximately 13,000 women fled abusive living situations.

Little Footprints, Big Steps is a charity that advocates children’s rights in Haiti. They offer protection and healing for children who have been victimized by abuse, homelessness, exploitation, slavery and neglect. Through services and programs they reunite children to their families, provide shelter, protection, food and education.

The event takes place this Saturday, July 25th in Vancouver from 4-10pm. There will be drinks, live music and some beautiful Art for sale. It will be a wonderful evening out for a great cause.

You can read all about the fundraising event and where to purchase your tickets here.

I was super excited and honored they accepted one of my paintings Pink Friday’ (pictured above) to be included in this years event.

Etsy Holiday Inspiration

Etsy is a marketplace where people around the world connect to buy and sell unique goods. Our mission is to re-imagine commerce in ways that build a more fulfilling and lasting world.

I love Etsy.

For those who are not aware, Etsy is a website which focuses on the selling & buying of handmade, & vintage items.
I like to think of Etsy as a ‘craftier‘ version of Ebay.
You can find everything on the site from paintings, prints, art & craft supplies, to home decor, quilts, beauty, jewelry, & toys.

Each item is unique, and it’s a great way to support artisans, & support smaller businesses.
Plus you can also find plenty of ideas for some DIY projects!

I’ve purchased some really cute items from Etsy previously & highly recommend shopping on Etsy. My latest purchase were gorgeous knitted coffee cozies which you can see here.

I was browsing on Etsy earlier, and started looking at Holiday gifts & decor and was blown away at all the great gift ideas.
Etsy is such a great site to do some online Holiday shopping, especially if you are looking for unique, homemade, beautiful pieces!

Grab a cup of cocoa, turn on your Christmas playlist, get cozy in your Christmas PJ’s (come on, you know you have a pair! 😉 ) and browse with me on Etsy! 🙂

Here are some of my top Holiday Picks from Etsy:

1. Winter Forest Wrapping Paper
from Etsy Seller: NormansPrintery

There’s few things I love more than beautifully wrapped Christmas presents under the tree. It’s almost like an art.
I love wrapping gifts, and have basically become the sole ‘gift wrapper‘ in my family. I love taking my time, and making the gifts look perfect, so I’m all about cute, unique wrapping paper.
This Forest Wrapping Paper is unique and perfectly vintage looking.

2. The Barrow – Chunky Infinity Scarf
from Etsy Seller: deroucheau

Nothing says Winter fashion like a nice, big, wool infinity scarf!
Essential piece of a girl’s Winter wardrobe.

3. Knitted Heart Fingerless Gloves
from Etsy Seller: KnitsbyVara

Cozy, homemade knitted gloves – perfect gift for her.

4. Burlap Dog Christmas Stocking
from Etsy Seller: ChristmasClaude

These doggie stockings are so adorable!
Pet’s are apart of the family, why not get a stocking for your fur-baby?

5. Glittered Acorn Christmas Ornaments – Set of 5
from Etsy Seller: AnnaBelleArts

I love the look of these glittery acorn ornaments.

6. Snowflake Christmas Earrings
from Etsy Seller: CloverPower

7. Christmas Reindeer Cushion
from Etsy Seller: CalicoandCotton

Cute reindeer pillow, perfect for a cabin!

8. Cardinals & Chickadees Christmas Wrapping Paper
from Etsy Seller: PaperandPresent

More pretty, unique wrapping paper. Love this bird design.

9. Custom Superhero Ornaments
from Etsy Seller: IttyBittyWoodShoppe

I thought these wooden superhero ornaments were so original, and creative. They would be so perfect for a kid’s tree, or a little boy’s tree!
If you’re a good painter, you could always make these yourself. I’m sure you could find plain wooden ornaments at a craft store, and paint them yourself. Would make for a great DIY & Christmas craft.

Have you ever bought or sold anything on Etsy before?

ROAM Gallery Reception

unnamed (4)I can’t even express how excited I am to announce that I am having my very first Art Exhibit at a real Art Gallery! Like WHAT???!!! I know! It’s the craziest thing ever! I barely believe it myself. For real.

I am so honoured that ROAM Gallery Owner, Jennifer has given me this amazing opportunity. I can’t thank her enough. Even though she told me, “Flowers ain’t my thing’… and well, flowers happen to be my whole art collection right now! Ha! She has taken me and all of my floral-ness regardless. Love her!

If you happen to be around the Vancouver area tonight, Friday, October 10th from 6 – 10pm drop by ROAM Gallery and say hello! There will be 4 of us local artists in attendance. We would love to meet you.
My art will be in the Gallery until November 2 and you can now find some of my pieces on our new Facebook page.

Address: City Square Mall – Upper Level, 555 West, 12th Ave. Vancouver, BC Canada

Art Exhibition Announcement

photo (12)5

We are so excited to officially announce that my original paintings will be featured in Vancouver at the ROAM Gallery. They will be showcasing my work along with 3 other talented local female artists. It’s going to be an awesome show with the different forms of art and styles. I love seeing new art and meeting other artists in all genres. Can always learn something new being around such creative people. Very inspiring. It’s gonna rock!

It’s kinda surreal to me at this point still. I never thought I’d ever have my paintings in an actual gallery! Last month Natasha and I had an art showing, but we did it all on our own. We booked the venue, planned and executed the whole thing. It was a ton of work, but we did everything completely solo. This time my art had to actually be accepted and invited into the gallery. A real gallery. This is a whole different ball game. I am super stoked about the whole thing yet super freaked out that people will be seeing it. Judging it. It’s probably the most difficult thing to do, in life in general… put yourself out there. But it’s something I feel I must do, I have to do. Besides, if I don’t put my art out into the world, I’m pretty sure I have absolutely no wall space left in my small townhouse left to hang anymore paintings!  ha!

IMG_8083hgMy paintings will be on display from October 6 – November 6. For those of you that live in and around the Vancouver area, there will be a Reception on Friday, October 10 from 6 – 10pm. We’d love to see you all. Stop by and say hi!
