Get Your #CoffeeBuzz On This Holiday!

IMG_8269g52You guys… there are only 77 days left to go until Christmas Day. I can’t believe the most magical time of year is almost here already! Anyone else as excited as I am?

A Christmas song came on my ipod shuffle the other day and surpisingly, I let the whole song play and actually enjoyed it. Than while grocery shopping, we came across Eggnog already out in stores. It’s Christmas time people! (Okay, I know there’s this awesome thing called Halloween happening first, but right after that and on November 1st, it’s basically Christmas time in our house).

We had the pleasure of teaming up with Staples Canada & Keurig for their #CoffeeBuzz campaign and were asked to create a coffee drink. Originally we had planned on using pumpkin (tis’ the season!) but when we came across the eggnog, we decided to just skip right on over Halloween (for now) and head straight to the Christmas drinks!

I don’t know about you but when Christmas rolls around, one of my very favourite drinks is an Eggnog Latte. So lo and behold, I introduce you to Rose & Lea’s Eggnog Latte! We kept the ingredients to a minimum and added no unneccessary sugars. No need to break the bank at coffee shops this Holiday when you can make the same thing at home. :)

Technically you need a shot of espresso for a drink to be considered a ‘latte’. Therefore, you can either use 2 shots espresso or do what we did and use strong concentrated coffee. We also added a shot of rum to our drinks but that is totally optional and tastes just as good without.

IMG_810ffThe new Keurig 2.0 was just recently released and has many new features that are incomparable to other at-home coffee brewers. My mom and I are both big coffee lovers and have another coffee machine at home as well. However, the new Keurig 2.0 is the first machine that can quickly brew a single cup of coffee or a carafe which allows you to brew 4-5 cups at once! There are plenty of other handy features including customizable drink options (you can pick the size – 4oz, 6oz, 8oz, or 10oz and choose the coffee strength), a 70 oz water reservoir, auto on & off and a colour touch display.

The Keurig 2.0 K400 is beautiful, sleek and modern & is super easy to use. There are a nice variety of different K-Cups available and the fact that you can brew 4-5 cups at once is a major plus.

There are 250 K-Cup varieties of coffee, tea and other beverages available for Keurig brewers. We used Tully’s Coffee Italian Roast Extra Bold Coffee for our Eggnog Lattes and it was perfect for this recipe.

{Coffee Talk} Caffe Divano, Port Moody

IMG_5015g2good

Today we went to Caffe Divano in Port Moody, BC. It’s located approximately 30 minutes outside of Vancouver and is in one of our favourite towns. We love, love, love Port Moody so much. You can read about our previous little outings in Port Moody that we’ve written about here

Caffe Divano is a family run cafe that originally started out in 1999 as Cornerstone Cafe and Catering. They later changed their name to Caffe Divano and opened new locations. Currently they have 3 locations – Burnaby, Coquitlam and Port Moody.

This specific Port Moody Cafe is nuzzled in a beautiful residential area. It is a busy neighbourhood with many people out taking their dogs for walks and running in for a coffee. Immediately when we entered the Cafe it had a very warm and inviting atmosphere. The owners seemed to not have missed a beat when planning this location’s decor and menu. These are the kinds of things we notice immediately and it makes an instant first impression. From the wall colour, the brick work along the counter, fireplace, fresh flowers on the counters from the local florist, delicious homemade goods, the wall display of a local artist’ work and the precision placement of the beautiful rustic inspired tables and comfy leather chairs.

Ohhh, I can’t forget to tell you what really got me is when I noticed a glass canister filled with dog treats sitting on their front counter encouraging pet owners to give their ‘fur baby’ a treat. Like how thoughtful is that? They really did think of everything! Anyone who loves dogs enough to put out treats for our furry friends makes me love this cafe even more!

All of these details add up. The little extra touches that they have incorporated into the cafe is impressive and thoughtful which further makes a customers’ overall experience a really good great one.

Natasha ordered a Vanilla Latte (her go-to) and I (Laura) ordered the Chai Tea Latte. We have to say the coffee flavours were excellent. They use 49th Parallel Coffee – the highest quality Arabica coffee beans, which means they are definitely pros in the coffee business!

They sell all kinds of homemade baked goods from paninis, cookies, to wraps, all made fresh in the cafe. (They also have an assortment of wheat-free and vegan options available!) It all looked so delicious.
We have a real issue when it comes to being in the same vicinity as baked treats.. Yep, it’s sad but true. We are also quite aware of the fact that we have zero will power when it comes to baked goods.
So with that being said of course we ordered some Earl Grey Macarons.

Now, I don’t want to come across like I’m some sort of Macaron cookie taster expert-person, because nothing could be further from the truth… but these particular macarons were not the best. All I am saying is, it wasn’t terrible and it wasn’t great.
Damn them macarons! I really, really, really wanted to love you!

IMG_5019gIMG_5018ggIMG_5016gg

Then after we were finished our coffees and were about to leave, these huge, amazing looking wraps in their front showcase caught our eye and lured us right towards them. We didn’t even try talking each other out of this one. No point. We bought 1 to go and shared it when we got home.
This delicious, delectable, dynamite of a wrap was awesome. Big thumbs up for this one!

Let’s re-evaluate this shall we?
Latte – Check* Excellent
Macarons – Not so much :(
Wrap with ham, eggs and hashbrowns –  Check* Delicious

So like the great 70’s rock singer, Meatloaf says, ‘2 out of 3 ain’t bad’.

IMG_5025gIMG_5033g

We definitely will be going back and certainly will recommend it to our friends and family.
Will we have another macaron you ask? Hell ya we will! (different flavour though,) We’re not quitters!
However, we keep reminiscing about their homemade cookies. They looked amazing! Next time.

{Coffee Talk} JJ Bean in Port Moody

IMG_4162gToday we are continuing to chat about local coffee shops.
We live in Vancouver… how can we stop talking about coffee shops? They’re literally on every street corner!

This time we stopped in at JJ Bean. Another very popular cafe in Vancouver with over a dozen locations. However this particular one we went to was just outside of Vancouver. Located in one of our most favourite areas, Port Moody (which you can read a little about here).

IMG_4158gJJ Bean is owned by the Neate family who have been roasting coffee in Vancouver for four generations.
It is a favourite among Vancouverites thanks in part to their delicious freshly brewed coffees, super popular vegan baked goods and cozy interiors.

IMG_4136ggWe both ordered Vanilla Latte’s & they were delish! Not too strong and not too sweet – just right.

IMG_4145g3IMG_4139g23The Port Moody location has two levels. The second level is more private and is great if you’re looking for a quiet spot for meetings or to study.

We sat upstairs and enjoyed our coffees while overlooking the Village.

IMG_414925bbb7IMG_4142g2bIMG_4137g2The interior is very clean, modern and minimalist looking.
Our favourite part of this location? The awesome ‘living wall’! There is a huge floor-to-ceiling live plant wall – sooo cool!

All of their baked goods are baked fresh daily. Their muffins are delicious and highly recommended.
If you’re in the area, definitely check out JJ Bean for your caffeine fix!

A Walk In The Park

IMG_1172 good

Since the Fall weather has been so beautiful the last few days, we wanted to really enjoy it & take some photographs at the park.
So we grabbed our camera, walked to Starbucks (obviously. Starbucks is a must), than to the park. The local Starbucks is literally only a 2 minute walk from our place and the park is also close by, so it’s perfect!

In other news, we finally got a new computer & everything is up and running, so you can expect regular posts from now on – We are so excited!

How cute are these coffee cozies?!
I posted about them previously in my Favorite Things post which you can see here.
We love our coffee cozies! They do a great job of keeping the coffee warm. So handy & cute.
Laura got the Heart cozy, and Natasha got the Pumpkin cozy.

We ordered them from Faith’s Yarn Works on Etsy. Check out Ashlen’s work – she has some beautiful knitted goods. We are big fans! :)
